Water Cups Fountain by Ariane Prin

Monday 26 November 2012

Designer Ariane Prin has built a hand-operated device that drips clay onto plaster moulds, creating porcelain cups with a differently splashed pattern each time.

The RCA graduate developed the machine as part of a residency at Design Centrum Kielce in Poland, inspired by the numerous drinking fountains she came across in the city over the summer.

As the user rotates the contraption, liquid clay is sieved through the four main vessels at the top of the structure, onto 16 plaster moulds suspended beneath, creating a tactile and unique cup.

The Water Cups are currently available in two colours, blue and red.
