D3 Design Talents at IMM Cologne 2013

Highlights from D3, IMM Cologne's up-and-coming designer showcase, include this reflective room divider by Camilla Richter, and optical mirrors by RCA graduate Kim Thome.

Swedish designer Jenny Ekdahl showed a therapeutic cabinet called Dear Disaster, which features hundreds of pivoting wooden scales on its surface that can be stroked and rearranged into blue and white 3D patterns.

From Kim Thome's Reflection series, Circus mirror (shown above) is decorated with differently coloured and positioned circles on either side so that, viewed through the mirror, an optical layered pattern can be seen.

Made of maple wood, aluminium and laser-cut raw leather, Hanna Kruger's Shingle Shelves are designed so that when one area is hidden, another is on display. The leather flaps are inspired by shingle roofing, which gives the product its name.

London-based designer Florian Schmid's C58 dressing table combines mirror and table into one wall-mounted piece which dissects in the middle. A matching stool accompanies the desk, with its seat flipped up at one end to create a miniature back rest.
