Ceramic theatres for contemporary art: Paolo Polloniato at Segno Italiano

Thursday 19 December 2013

Segno Italiano, the company that endorses high-quality Italian artisan products internationally, is currently staging an exhibition of ceramic works by Paolo Polloniato at its Milanese showroom (Via Palermo, 8).

Called Theatres Of The Contemporary Art, the show tells the story of our time through the artisanal technique of ceramics - and is an example of the trend towards elevated storage that emerged at Maison & Objet this season.

Sophisticated ceramic frames host symbols of our vices, virtues and ambiguities, with the fragility of ceramic reflecting the vulnerability of our lives.

Born in 1979 in Nove, a small Italian city known for its ceramics, Paolo Polloniato has the material embedded in his DNA: members of his family have been renowned as master artisans for over nine generations. For this project, he used classic moulds that have been in his family for hundreds of years.

The works are all made in white earthenware, typical of the tradition of Nove. Each unique box / theatre contains elements from the original moulds of different factories of the area.

The exhibition will run until January 12th 2014.
